As a Florida girl living in the Sonoran Desert, I had been jonesing for some beach time, so you can imagine my excitement when my sister-in-law came to visit over the summer and wanted to road-trip to Cali with me. YES PLEASE.
For this overnight trip, we had no major plans. The only thing we booked/looked up in advance was the hotel, which we scored thanks to travel miles. We packed the car with lots of snacks (chips, sandwiches, fruit, water) and took off on a Wednesday morning. The drive from Phoenix to San Diego was easy and beautiful, roughly 5 hours, including a pitstop in Yuma, AZ.

For dinner we headed to San Diego's downtown Gaslamp District, the hip and cool area of restaurants, bars, and clubs. Since we weren't out late shenaniganing (refer back to pregnant roadtrip tip #7), I woke up early the next morning and got to enjoy some caffeine free tea on the balcony overlooking the ocean, some beach yoga and relaxing until checkout time. Before hitting the road again, we were recommended El Indio, on San Diego's new international restaurant row. The line was long, but service was great and the food delicious.
A fun and laid back couple of summer days in the gorgeous San Diego area was exactly what I needed. Will be back this winter for more adventures - now with a baby - and I can't wait!
